As busy business owners, the balancing act between family life and running a business can feel relentless!
I know I’ve felt it recently. Juggling the business, managing my never-ending cough, getting Osten settled into a new daycare, and this week, facing the loss of a loved one on the East Coast. It was a blessing - she’s no longer in pain - but selfishly, it’s hard not to wish we'd got to see her one more time. When this is our everyday life, it’s just so much.
All of us all doing our best to keep things moving, but there are days when it feels like we’ve got little duck feet underneath trying to keep our heads above water.
Here's what I've realised in the last 6 years - when we stop trying to do it all alone, we find that life can be a little less overwhelming. It was evident in a little poll I did a few months back where 79% of people who responded said the best thing they outsourced was the house cleaning. Now this tells me that we either really hate cleaning or the time that cleaning takes is better spent on other things - and I think it's the latter.
But let's take your business, for example. When you’re running it solo, every client question, every scheduling hiccup, every little detail can pile up until it feels like you’re drowning in a sea of emails and calls. But when you lean on others - whether that’s your business friends, a team, or even automation and systems - you can share the load and breathe a little easier. Just to be clear, it’s not about giving up control; it’s about creating space for yourself in the chaos.
And when we translate that to our personal lives, when we reach out, talk to our friends, and use services to support us (e.g. a cleaner), we create space for ourselves to do the things that matter most like spending time with our kids.
It’s not always easy, but knowing we don’t have to do it all alone makes the weight a little lighter.
